Welcome to FHIRfly: Clinical Coding APIs for the AI Era
Introducing FHIRfly — fast, accurate healthcare data APIs built for developers and AI agents alike.
Healthcare developers have a data problem.
Whether you're building a clinical decision support tool, a patient-facing app, or an AI agent that needs to understand medications — you've probably spent more time wrestling with bulk data files than writing actual code. Downloading gigabyte datasets from CMS. Parsing inconsistent CSV formats. Updating stale local caches. Building normalization layers that should already exist.
We built FHIRfly to fix that.
What is FHIRfly?
FHIRfly provides clean, fast REST APIs for the clinical coding systems that power healthcare: NDC, NPI, RxNorm, LOINC, ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CVX, MVX, and FDA drug labels.
No bulk downloads. No stale data. Just call an endpoint and get a structured JSON response, updated daily from authoritative sources.
(And yes, the name is a bit aspirational — we're not serving FHIR bundles yet. But if you're building healthcare apps, you know that interoperability matters, and we wanted a name that signals where we're headed. Consider it a promise.)
Built for Developers and AI Agents
We're not building another EHR integration platform. FHIRfly is infrastructure — the "picks and shovels" layer that becomes invisible but essential.
Our APIs work equally well whether you're a human developer building an app, or an AI agent that needs to look up a medication code programmatically. Clean responses, predictable behavior, deterministic results.
This matters more than ever as AI agents become first-class consumers of healthcare data. LLMs and agents aren't clicking through UIs — they need structured, reliable, token-efficient responses. We design for that from day one.
What's Available Now
Today, FHIRfly provides lookup APIs for:
- NDC — National Drug Codes from FDA
- NPI — Provider registry from CMS NPPES
- RxNorm — Drug concepts from NLM
- LOINC — Lab and clinical codes from Regenstrief
- ICD-10-CM — Diagnosis codes from CMS
- ICD-10-PCS — Procedure codes from CMS
- CVX / MVX — Vaccine codes from CDC
- FDA Labels — Drug labeling data from openFDA
All data is public domain or permissively licensed. No SNOMED, no CPT, no licensing headaches.
Why Now?
The healthcare AI wave is real. OpenAI and Anthropic are both making healthcare moves. CMS interoperability rules are driving adoption. TEFCA is expanding. The industry is finally converging on standards-based data exchange.
But here's the thing: the big players are building consumer-facing AI, not data infrastructure. They need clean code systems underneath. That's where FHIRfly fits — we're not competing with the AI apps, we're powering them.
Get Started
FHIRfly is in early access with a generous free tier. No credit card required to start. Sign up, create an API credential, and make your first lookup in minutes.
We're building the clinical data layer that healthcare AI needs. We'd love to have you along for the ride.
